Event Details

Join Sebastian Palacio, graduate student in the Biological Diversity Program at WCSU, for a presentation on his journey to becoming a wildlife biologist and his study of fireflies! Participants will learn about the lifecycle of fireflies, the threats they face at each life stage and solutions that we can take to have a healthy firefly population in Danbury. Sebastian will also highlight how light pollution negatively impacts human health, wildlife and our ability to stargaze.

Sebastian graduated in 2017 from SUNY Cobleskill majoring in wildlife management. In the last couple of years, he has worked with several agencies including U.S Fish Wildlife, National Audubon Society, National Parks Service, USGS, and many more.  His stewardship project for WCSU aims to conserve firefly populations by enhancing firefly habitat in Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary in Newtown, CT and educating the public on firefly conservation.
