Event Details

Please join us for this exciting opera presentation with Dr. Gilad Harel. You will enjoy the elaborate sets, costumes, lighting, acting, dancing and singing of opera in the Baroque Period, which has remained one of (and perhaps the most ambitious) genre in the standard canon of western art music.  Dr. Harel will perform operas by early innovators including Claudio Monteverdi, Henry Purcell, and George Frideric Hande in the presentation. In these examples, you will see heroes from mythology and ancient history realized in the form of a traditional baroque opera – that is, “opera seria”.

Dr. Gilad Harel is a musicologist and music theorist from western classical repertoire to jazz and musical theater. He is a Professor of Music at Naugatuck Valley Community College, where he has been presented with the AFT Merit Award for Exemplary Service to the College for 4 consecutive years. He serves as musical director of theater productions.
