Danbury’s own Marian Anderson is a cultural icon whose contralto voice broke through racial barriers in the operatic world and ultimately in American society.  Her beautiful, illustrious voice is most memorable through her controversial recital on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in 1939 and her Metropolitan Opera debut in 1955.

Join us for a special celebration of the life and legacy of Marian Anderson, hosted by Tanisha Mitchell. Named a "Mover and Shaker" by Library Journal, Ms. Mitchell is best known for her innovative work in the arts at the Metropolitan Opera where her curating and archival expertise helped the institution discover rare, previously unknown, treasures that reflect its performance history.
